How horrible is it to work with satin? Gosh, don’t think I’ll do that ever again. Anyway, here’s another dress I designed and made. Though I must say it’s already quite old! As in several months.

Design #4

This dress is one I had finished for several months yet, and you’ll probably have seen me wearing it before, but this is just the ‘official’ shot I used for my presentation. It was actually raining when I took this picture, but luckily you can’t see the raindrops falling down.

I made the dress to wear it myself, and wanted to keep the design very simple, but added some very kitsch detailing to spice it up a bit. It has puffy sleeves (you can see that better from the sides) and I have sewn lots of old buttons around the neckline.

Made of vintage fabric. Sorry I forgot posting my designs by the way, I just have a lot going on at the moment.

Lamé Tights

april 4, 2008

After wanting these so badly for more than half a year, but didn’t want to pay €46 just for tights (American Apparel), I finally found some Topshop ones on eBay. Including shipping for about €12. They are a bit too wide (I got a size UK12, because of my legs), but I can probably change that myself.

I wore them with a pair of socks, because they’re also a bit wide at my ankles (which is always like that with tights, why can’t they just make them a bit smaller there?).

Also customized this vintage bag, that looked quite boring at first, but I put some thrifted (and broken) clip earrings on top of it, plus a shoe bow.

Dress, bag: Customized vintage
Cardigan, socks: H&M
Tights: Topshop
Scarf: Vintage
Boots: Unisa

Today’s the kick-off of my fashion designs. Please remember I made all sorts of items, all in a different style, so it’s not a collection! I was just trying out different things.

Styling, photography and modelling are all by me. “Really, is that you?”. Yeah, it’s quite obvious right, but I just needed to mention, haha.

A bit fairy, hippie, romantic, with a hint of Hawaï, just something I came up with when I woke up and made the same day at the Bas Kosters fashion workshop. There’s a cute pleats-detail on the back which you can’t see on the pictures though.

Oh, and not to forget, you haven’t seen those shoes yet. I bought those a while ago at ArtToBe, for only €15, though they retailed for about €300, but the store was closing down. Only one thing, they’re a size 41! Haha, I just needed to own them although I’m a size 39! How bad!

Customized my vintage dress

maart 3, 2008

Maybe you still remember the dress I picked for the gift certificate I won? So, this’ how it was before I re-fashioned it (OK, without the very not-matching turtleneck underneath):

And this is how it looks now! What do you think?

Dress: Customized vintage
Tights, earrings: H&M
Jacket: Vero Moda
Platforms: Kenneth Cole
Belt, watch, bullet necklace: Vintage

Missmatching my new selfmade skirt

februari 21, 2008

I made this skirt about a week ago, today was the first time I wore it. So, what do you think? And don’t I look short in this picture? Haha. I’m 1.83m with those heels on!

And yes, I know I told some of you I would be selling some selfmade skirts around this time, but; I have upcoming admissions for study purposes (and need to bring my own designs). I’m really sorry.

The first admission is March 28 (+29) and the day after I have a quite large competition (which I don’t know anything about, only the fact that I need to show some designs).

I really love those two necklaces. The first one is real gold with an orange stone and I got it from my grandmother. I don’t know how old it is, but I believe it’s quite old. The second one is a real bullet from World War II, which my grandpa made a necklace of for my other grandma.

Skirt: Selfmade, my design
Tee: Souvenir shop at Times Square
Cardigan, bracelet: H&M
Watch, belt: Secondhand/Vintage
Boots: Unisa
Tights: Hema

Edit, 22:18: The side of the fabric you see is actually the back of it. I thought the right side with the print looked a bit cheap and the other side looked so beautifully vintage patterned.

Dye the dress red

februari 18, 2008

As you can read in the outfit post above, I dyed my dress. Here are some pictures from before, during, and after. Like always, the dress shrinked to a top (and still wet in the picture). It’s now a dress again, after pulling the ends for five minutes. I will probably already wear it tomorrow, or the day after.

The dress is one from Mango, which I bought about a year ago. I don’t think yellow really suits me, and I’ve always wanted to have a nice red dress.

New buy: Vintage cocktail dress

januari 15, 2008

I bought this emerald green cocktail dress at eBay. I was already a while searching for a cocktail dress, a real over-the-top one. I actually wanted an eighties LBD with a lot of sequins and ruffled skirt, but this one was so extraordinary, and a lot cheaper, I just needed to own it. I bought the dress for only $9,99! Of course shipping was a bit higher, $12,50, but alltogether that’s still only €16. So like nothing. Oh gosh, this dress is so over-the-top, wonder if I will wear it to school (cause all the other girls at my school won’t even dare to dress like this with Halloween, but well). I will definitely make it a bit shorter, in this style dresses don’t need to be knee-high. According to the measurements I think it will be a size XS, so I really hope it will fit me, cause I’m a size S. I actually don’t believe it will fit my bust, but well.

Edit: Yay, I recieved it! It’s slightly darker (but less blue than in the below picture) and also slightly more extravagant. But luckily, it does fit. It’s really WAY too extravagant to wear it like this (concluded after fitting) so I decided to make it into a skirt and a top or cardigan. I already made the skirt, what do you think? I will wear it tomorrow ;)

Finished my dress, again

januari 1, 2008

Now, I totally finished my dress. I thought it was too boring and made it pretty kitsch thanks to some ribbons and cords. The dress needed to stand out, so I wore it with some dark colored pieces. Well, what do you think? Look at this previous post to see how it looked before. Of course it still has the puff sleeves.

Made myself a new skirt

december 26, 2007

I made myself this high waisted skirt I already wanted for a while. The best part is the fabric is vintage, so no one will make the same. It has some beautiful baroque embroidery on top. The skirt looks like satin in the second picture, but it is really thick curtain fabric. You can see a crease in the pictures (at the bottom of the skirt), I still need to iron it. I actually tried to make the skirt a bit different, but gladly it did turn out more pretty than I expected it to be. I finished it so quickly, it was just too easy to make.

Turtleneck: H&M
Vest: Some store in Queens, NYC

Made some jewelry

december 23, 2007

I didn’t have anything to do so made from some old and broken secondhand items new jewelry. Gold chain, tiny black bead, large gold bead and then turquoise thingies I cut out of a bracelet. I was done in 10 minutes and the materials were all together about €0,60.

Finished my dress!

november 15, 2007

I finally finished my dress. My sewing machine had a problem and I couldn’t fix it. After a few months, my grandpa told me to change something, I did, and after 5 minutes it worked again. I haven’t been able to sew, because of the tiniest problem ever, so stupid!

Because I’m a high school senior, I need to do a project, and mine’s fashion design. This is the second dress I finished, I actually started this one before I finished the first.  The belt is from H&M. It’s really so much cuter in real! Here it looks quite simple. It’s romantically flattering.

Outfit: Party (self-made dress)

september 19, 2007

I finally finished the salmon-colored dress I was working on. I made some puffsleeves, a tulip-seam and added some cute old buttons to the neckline. I made the dress too big for me, so it would look nice with a belt. After finishing my cutie I hurried to get on time for the bus. I had a party for all the employees of Outlet Center Roermond, which was quite fun. I drank some wine, and some more wine and then already needed to go at 22:21, because that was the time the last bus left.
