Birthdaygirl

april 30, 2008

My birthday was actually yesterday (April 29th), but I was late home from work and not really able to post anymore. This post, including pictures, is about yesterday.

I went to Eindhoven again, for ilovevintage.nl, and needed to do styling AND model at the same time, as all the models are on holiday right now. My boss already told me I needed to do so last Monday through the telephone, but I didn’t expect to model yesterday already, so it was a bit of a surprise, haha. As I always need to photograph at home all by myself (outfit-shots) it was quite weird to actually being photographed by someone else.

I my opinion it didn’t went tótally great, but I guess OK, though I really hate the fact my hair looked COMPLETELY yellow in the shots and even dirty, though it looks ‘normal’ on the shots I took myself (the outfit-shots in this post). I just washed it the same morning, and at the pictures of the photoshoot it looks like I didn’t wash my hair in 2 weeks.

After the shoot I needed to add new vintage clothing to the webshop for the first time and we were done by 19:30 (7:30PM). The train was delayed, so I got myself some fries as I also hadn’t eaten for a while and catched my train by 20:15 (08:15PM), in Venlo I took the bus by 21:20 (09:20PM) and I was finally home at 21:45 (09:45PM). It indeed takes me some time to travel home, but luckily I don’t mind travelling.

I already called my boyfriend if he still wanted to come, and he did, so we were ‘home’ at the same time. As I’m celebrating my birthday next Friday I didn’t expect him to already bring me a present but he did. He knew I needed a new perfume, and he knew I really liked The One, by Dolce&Gabbana, though it’s not really the cheapest perfume. Still, he bought it for me. Lucky girl.

I celebrated getting this delicious gift by making myself a delicious cocktail. A mix of cassis syrup, Martini, red wodka and energy drink.

Work

april 28, 2008

There weren’t really that many people in the store yesterday, though we expected a lot. It was a Sunday, plus the weather was just awesome, most people have their holidays, and still the shop wasn’t that full of Germans (90% of the people who come are German, though the shop’s in The Netherlands). Some ‘more powerfull’ colleages were a bit stressing out and telling us (me and the other weekend-employees) to get away from each other, don’t chat and stuff, though they were also chatting themselves. I still chatted though, I’m not going to ruin my day by not speaking a word.

Yeah, I don’t like mirror-shots either, but I needed to take one because I can’t really get some other nice pictures at my boyfriend’s. I thought I didn’t take a shot including the jacket, bag and shades yet, but the above one is with bag though. Anyway, my Wayfarers look like any other normal shades in the picture below, too bad.

In the evening me and my boyfriend went to Meet the Spartans, you know, that parody on the movie 300. As expected it was just a really corny and dull movie, including celeb look-a-likes like Paris Hilton (with a huge hump on her back), Britney Spears (shaving her head) and Ugly Betty (the ‘beautiful’ Oracle). The movie itself wasn’t that bad, but the fact it was that short (about 60 minutes) wasn’t really it best’s feature.

Romeo says “Search, find and let the dogs destroy”

After having killed my earlier most beautiful vintage earrings, my cat now ruined my newest most beautiful vintage clips. OK, one of them, but I can’t really do anything with the other one right now.

It wasn’t really my cat who actually killed them, but he’s the one who always takes my stuff from tables and other ‘higher spaces’ in the room. After he finds the stuff he smashes them on the floor and gives them to the dogs, who finally destroy them.

Adore the floatyness of the fabrics they used for this season.

Finally, a real fashion job

april 27, 2008

Yes, it’s true, since about two weeks I got myself a new job, the owner of ilovevintage.nl contacted me about it, through my blog. We had lunch in Eindhoven at Bagle&Juice (delicious) at Friday the 12th in Eindhoven and after that we went to the office and I could immediately style a photoshoot. Faranak, the owner, absolutely is the most adorable girl I’ve ever seen, I should have actually taken a picture of her and have posted it here.

The shots I used for this post are all styled by me (just some examples).

Last Friday, I styled another vintage shoot, which was again really great to do. In total, I’m doing these things:

  • Styling (Pick out a vintage item that needs to be sold and make it a complete outfit/look, on a model)
  • Photography (Still need to be taught how to, but I’ll be doing this in a while)
  • Customizing vintage (Vintage which isn’t really nice to be sold yet, which I make more unique and attractive)
  • Designing clothes (Personally design and sew dresses, skirts etc.)

Styling is great of course, but the thing I think is the greatest is the fact that my designs are actually going to be sold in the shop! I’ll of course tell you when they’re available.

I still have a job in Designer Outlet Roermond, but when Faranak comes back (she’s on holiday right now), and everything works out OK at ilovevintage, I’ll quit at the outlet center. I will miss my colleages though, but my new fashion job is just definately better. Though, having thousands (literally!) of vintage shoes, purses, belts and pieces of clothing around you isn’t really the best for your wallet, haha.

This is what I wore the day of our appointment by the way:

Dress, scarf: Vintage
Jacket, skirt: H&M
Bag: Friis&Company
Shoes: Unisa
Tights: Hema

A damn perfect wedding dress

At least to me. I would even want to marry just because I could wear that vintage dress! It’s gorgeous. Click here for the lucky owner.

New York

Quite a while ago I re-started posting my NYC pictures, and forgot about it. I will continue again, so here are the next three shots I personally took.

From the boat, to Liberty Island.

Back to the skycrapers again.

Oscar de la Renta - Spring 2008

My favorites out of the whole collection. I really love these, and the variety, although that last thing doesn’t make the collection really it’s own.

First some classy things, then a bit cruise-ish.

Beatiful dresses, but they don’t seem to be from the same collection, although they are. I think that a real designer should make every outfit in his collection to be connected with the other outfits. I mostly love the red dress.

Some première-dresses. I would love to wear the first one!

Outstanding student thing

april 26, 2008

By the way guys, I believe I said it a bit the wrong way, about the most outstanding student-thing. I meant outstanding as in looks, as in appearance. Sticking out, eye-catching.

That’s why I thought it would be funny to show my future grandchildren, haha. “Look how granny looked back in the days.”

Yesterday’s gala

You’ll get better shots in some time, but for the moment I’ll have to work with these.

During the afternoon I polished my nails (classic red), washed my hair and did my make-up (also just classic; black mascara, black eye-liner, matte brown eye-shadow and foundation). Then, at 18:30 (06:30 PM) I put on my dress, and 5 minutes later my vintage beauty ripped open (15 cm’s, about 6″!) and I had only 20 minutes to fix it (and iron it afterwards too)! I was stressing out and got all muggy (< is that the right word?) but I fixed it on time and was at my friend’s place at 19:00 (07:00PM).

My friends and I just definitely had the most beautiful car of all! Look at this gorgeous oldtimer in which we went to our gala! And the chauffeur, isn’t he perfect? I already knew the car was an oldtimer and I knew it was black, but gosh, how exited was I when seeing this car! I dreamt about it looking like this, but definitely didn’t expected it to look like this indeed. How cute is the trunk on the back.

So, in a procession (< correct word?) we went to DOK6, where our gala was. There were like thousands of eyes staring at you, and I can’t really describe whether that was annoying or funny, but yes it was BIG. Two porters opened ‘our’ car’s doors and we stepped out. GOSH, that was even a BIGGER happening. It felt so weird to walk on the red carpet with hundreds of people on both sides (1 meter away from each other, us walking in the center), all watching you and it seemed like it lasted forever, though it were ‘only’ about 30/40 meters.

When we ‘finally’ arrived at DOK6 we needed to walk past the teachers which was again BIG as they were all looking at you up and down and up and down, haha. Then we got inside and were brought a drink, which tasted quite good (it was a mix of champagne and I guess red wodka).

Vintage beaded and sequined cocktail-dress, patent Italian peeptoe platforms, vintage glass earrings with gold painted lining and a patent vintage purse. I took this picture this morning, as it’s more detailed.

I bought coins for €20 as I expected to buy some delicious drinks like Martini and stuff (which are quite expensive), but when I got in, I found out they were only selling beer, wine and soda! I don’t drink beer because I think it’s disgusting, soda isn’t really the thing for a party, and wine makes me quite tipsy quicky. But yes, I chose for wine and got a bit tipsy indeed, haha.

The room where the party was looked quite nice, but besides a ‘big band’ there wasn’t really anything to do, I expected much more. I chatted with my teachers a lot, which was nice/interesting/funny (also got a glass of rosé of one of them), but furthermore I didn’t really do much because I thought the rest was quite boring. Some 60-year-old guy with a moustache was staring at me the whole evening, not just looking but really non-stop staring, which was annoying, and when the party was over he even walked over to me and started chatting and flirting, freak.

I took this picture when I got home at 02:30, being quite tipsy and not being able to stand straight for ten seconds, haha.

And I don’t know what our ex-caretaker took or drank, but he said the same thing to me for 6 times; “Hey Renée, I saw your pictures in De Break!” (our school’s magazine), and “Oh, how nice you did came though!”. He also couldn’t stop asking me to dance with him.

Anyway, the beginning of the evening was exiting, but the rest wasn’t that special and I would rather have gone with my boyfriend to a big party of his school in a giant discotheque. Too bad I missed that chance.

New nailpolishes

After wanting black nailpolish for at least a year, I finally found some. Of course I did see some before, but the ones I saw were OR the crappy and sticky €3 versions OR the expensive €20+ versions. Now I finally found a decent one for a decent price.

Also got myself some red nailpolish (for yesterday’s gala), which is a bit darker than my other red one , and a nail polish correcter pencil, which is really handy because I’m not always able to only polish my nails, but my fingers too.
