Carnaval
februari 1, 2008 |
As you can see, this isn’t quite a normal outfit. Why? Cause it’s Carnaval right now in The Netherlands (actually almost only in my province, Limburg). Carnaval is like Halloween in the States, only it lasts for 5 days here. Don’t mix it up with the Brazilian Carnival!
With Halloween a lot of people dress up like some one else, an icon, singer, actress or something like that, with Carnaval we just ‘dress up’. If you want to be a chicken; be a chicken, and if you want to be a pirat; just become pirat for 5 days.

I wanted to dress up as Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction) first, but thought it would be a bit boring, cause like almost nobody knows her here and cause her outfit isn’t that special; white blouse, black pants (I’d wear just black tights), short black haircut.
A week before Carnaval I changed my mind about becoming Mia Wallace, and thought it would be nice to go for some sort of childish colorful eighties trash inspired outfit. I did buy the wig I planned for Mia, but just because I wanted to try a wig for once, to see how it felt.

I so love those geek glasses I thrifted this week!
I only had 2 classes today (from 10:15 to 11:55), but already went to school the first lesson hour, which started 08:20. I didn’t feel like coming at school all by myself and thought two hours were a bit too few for doing so much work to dress up.

Doesn’t this wig make me look like Diana Bobar (So Fash’on) a bit? I think it actually looked quite good (although really hard to stuff all my hair underneath a that small wig)! But well, I don’t have the type of hair to get a haircut like this.

Cardigan: My dad’s
Skirt, earrings: Selfmade
Tights, shoes, pink top: Vintage
Necklaces, bracelets, glasses, belt: Thrifted, second-hand, vintage
Leopard top: S. Oliver
Wig: Geer van de Veer, Venlo

during carnaval, do you go to school with your “fancy-dressing” outfit?
and your (beautiful!) eyes are sooooooo blue, i wondered if you wore lenses?
xx
The first day of Carnaval we are all allowed to dress up for it yes ;) We now have our holidays, so it’s just one day at school.
They’re actually green, not blue, and those are lenses. Not specially for Carnaval though ;)
Cooole carnaval outfit, een feestse!
Dankje! Weet niet of jij het ook viert, anders: Feest ze ook ;)
Hele leuke caranavals outfit zo heb ik ook weer wat inspiratie voor mijn eigen outfit…X
Dankjewel!
I love it! You sure have fun dressing up for any occasion! Happy celebrations then!
well, yeh, to me it was blue but looking at it better, it could be green ;)
@Marta: Yes I have! Thanks.
wow you look good with black hair. :-D
so now you know how you’ll look if you decide to dye your hair one day.. haha! have fun!
wow, a complete makeover ;-)
hope you had fun during carnaval!
Leuke carnaval outfit, ik vind het altijd leuk om nog eens een reden te hebben om je zo te verkleden :)
Ik vind dat je eigenlijk wel goed staat met die pruik! Vooral in de laatste foto.
@Fleu: Thanks! I really like the wig, but it will never work in real cause of my thin hair…
@Claudi: Yes indeed and yes I have. Although it lasts for five days, I just celebrate it for 2. I’m not like totally into the horrible Carnaval-songs.
@Imelda: Dankjewel, inderdaad, is heerlijk ;) Dankje!
I can’t express how awesome this outfit is…. because it is so NOT-you but it still works!
THANKS! It is a bit me though, haha, OK; I believe. Not really an everyday outfit no.
