I got an email from one of my readers – I will not call names – because of the sentence in the header: “Some believe in Allah, other believe in fashion”. She felt a bit offended because she’s a Muslim, but also told me she knew I didn’t wrote it to hurt anyone. She too wanted to know why I’ve chosen for Allah, instead of God. To let you know, she wasn’t acting stupid or something, it was a really nice letter!
Of course I immediately replied at her, and I copied a part of my reply to also let you know why I’ve chosen for that sentence, and that I don’t mean to offend anyone:
“I really don’t want to hurt any one with the Allah-sentence, it’s just something little to express how much I love fashion: I eat it, I live for it and mostly, I beliéve in it. I chose for the word Allah, instead of God, just because I think it’s a more beautiful word, so not to offend any Muslim. I don’t mean this in any type of way you shouldn’t believe in Allah or something, it’s the last part that matters (“others believe in fashion”), the first part (“some believe in Allah”) is just something I come up with to make the sentence sound more original. Something like “I believe in fashion” is just too standard, a bit cliché and boring to me.
Hopefully you will understand this, cause I really don’t mean to give anyone a degrading feeling about their religion.”
I totally understand your header isn’t out to offend anyone. It’s just an overly exaggerated way of saying you love fashion….. nothing wrong with that!
Indeed ;) Thanks!
The title caught my attention at first but I didn’t think about it much because I understood your idea. You could it have used Jesus or any other religious name, but Allah was the one that sounded good to you and that’s fine.
Yes it did ;)
Because the girl felt a bit offended, I just needed to write all of you this, in case others felt too.
i am muslim too, but it didn’t offend me when i first saw it… even i thought it was pretty cool that you mentioned Allah instead of others :)
Thank you. Yes I think it’s a more beautiful word than ‘God’, although it means the same.
I’ve just stumbled across your blog and I guess I was a bit suprised by the header. It’s lightheartedly implying one has to make a trade-off between fashion and religion..
Im glad I found this explanation though :p
No, it’s not like that. But I guess you found that out by this post ;)
